Swanton Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended over 3,000 migrants in May, breaking a new record for the Canadian border sector. These arrests bring this fiscal year’s cumulative to over 10,000 — another sector milestone.

Unofficial Border Patrol reports accessed by Truth Voices Texas indicated that Swanton Sector agents detained around 3,000 migrants in May. This represents the highest number of migrant encounters for any month in the sector’s history, which oversees the Canadian border with eastern New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire. This figure even surpasses the annual total for any fiscal year before the Biden administration.

Swanton Sector Chief Patrol Agent Robert Garcia shared a report on social media indicating that his agents have apprehended more than 10,000 migrants so far this fiscal year (beginning on October 1, 2023). This surpasses last year’s record-breaking total of 6,925 migrant arrests for the entire year.

Migrant apprehensions in the Swanton Sector have surged dramatically during the Biden era. Garcia noted that the apprehensions in April alone exceeded the annual totals of FY21 and FY22 combined.

Since President Joe Biden assumed office in January 2021, Swanton Sector agents have detained over 18,000 migrants — exceeding the total number of arrests from all prior years dating back to FY 2004 combined.
