Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was involved in a tense encounter with police on Sunday morning, just hours before the team’s home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
A video of the incident, which showed Hill being handcuffed and detained by four officers, quickly went viral on social media, leaving fans stunned and concerned about his availability for the game.
According to Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, the incident was sparked by a “driving violation” that escalated into a verbal altercation with police. ESPN NFL reporter Jeff Darlington reported that Hill was cited for reckless driving and released after the situation was deescalated.
Rosenhaus expressed his outrage over the way Hill was treated, calling it “very upsetting” and “unnecessary.” He told NFL Network that Hill felt the situation “got way out of hand” and that they would be speaking with attorneys about the incident.
The Miami Dolphins released a statement on X, confirming that Hill was pulled over for a traffic incident near the stadium and briefly detained by police. The team assured fans that Hill had been released and was available to play in the game, with several teammates stopping to offer support during the incident.
The team’s statement read: “This morning, WR Tyreek Hill was pulled over for a traffic incident about one block from the stadium and briefly detained by police. He has since been released. Several teammates saw the incident and stopped to offer support. Tyreek and all other players involved have safely arrived to the stadium and will be available for today’s game.”
