A man fishing in a North Carolina state park claims to have heard cries and a gunshot before South Carolina woman Mica Miller, according to officials, took her own life in the park.

Johnnie Jacobs shared with Truth Voices affiliate WBTW that he found Miller’s fanny pack with her ID inside and heard crying followed by a gunshot while he was fishing. The Robeson County medical examiner confirmed Miller, from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head at Lumber State Park in Lumberton.

While police have ruled Miller’s death as a suicide, there are questions surrounding her relationship with her husband, John-Paul Miller, a pastor. Police reports indicate that Mica Miller felt groomed by her husband for years before their marriage in 2017. Additionally, there are concerns regarding John-Paul Miller’s actions during Mica’s mental health crisis, including transferring ownership of their home and moving her belongings without her consent.

Despite John-Paul Miller not being in North Carolina at the time of Mica’s death, he announced to his congregation that she had taken her own life due to mental health struggles. However, Mica’s family and friends believe there are suspicious details surrounding her death and doubt that she would have killed herself.

Reports indicate that Mica had filed for legal separation and divorce from John-Paul Miller and had also reported incidents of harassment and abuse, expressing fear for her life in March. She had even posted videos on Facebook addressing abuse in relationships, leading some to believe she was in an abusive relationship herself.
