Lebanon Residents Warned to Evacuate Ahead of Israeli Strikes

Israel’s military is poised to launch a counterattack against Lebanon, warning residents of Beirut and other areas to evacuate ahead of the strikes. The move comes as Hezbollah fired over 170 rockets into Israel earlier Sunday, prompting a response from the Israeli Defense Forces.

According to IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari, dozens of projectiles have been launched into northern Israel in the past 24 hours. In anticipation of a counterstrike, Hagari issued a statement urging residents of Beirut and other locations to leave areas being used to finance Hezbollah’s activities.

The escalation of violence follows a series of strikes in the Gaza Strip, which killed at least 87 people on Saturday and Sunday. The war has taken a deadly turn, with Israel deploying ground troops into Lebanon over the past month.

The US has been pushing for a ceasefire in Gaza, particularly after the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar last week. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin expressed concern over the high number of civilian casualties in Lebanon, describing them as “far too high.” The situation remains volatile, with Israel and Hezbollah engaged in a cycle of retaliation and counter-retaliation.
