Vice President Kamala Harris has launched a new “issues” section on her campaign website, just one day before her debate with former President Donald Trump. The section, titled “A New Way Forward,” outlines her stance on various issues, including the economy, abortion rights, healthcare, immigration, and more.
According to the campaign, Harris’s vision is to “protect our fundamental freedoms, strengthen our democracy, and ensure every person has the opportunity to not just get by, but to get ahead.” The website highlights Harris’s past experiences as a prosecutor, Attorney General, Senator, and Vice President, emphasizing her commitment to standing up for the American people.
On the economy, Harris reiterates her plan to implement price controls, which has been met with criticism from both sides of the aisle. Her campaign promises to “crack down on anti-competitive practices that let big corporations jack up prices and undermine the competition.” Additionally, Harris vows to introduce a federal ban on corporate price gouging on food and groceries, building on existing anti-price gouging statutes in 37 states.
In the healthcare section, Harris pledges to make healthcare more affordable and protect Social Security and Medicare. Notably, there is no mention of her previous support for Medicare for All, a position she has since distanced herself from.
Harris and her running mate, Governor Walz, also promise to “reform our broken immigration system,” despite Harris’s role as border czar under President Biden. They propose reviving the bipartisan border security bill and committing to sign it into law.
Interestingly, the campaign contrasts each section with “Trump’s Project 2025 Agenda,” which is actually a set of policy positions from The Heritage Foundation, not the Trump campaign.
Trump campaign national press secretary Karoline Leavitt questioned why Harris is only now releasing her policy agenda, given her current role in the White House.
