Vice President Kamala Harris sat down with the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) on Tuesday, in an interview that was widely anticipated but ultimately underwhelming. Despite being a more cordial exchange than her predecessor’s, Harris’s responses on pressing issues, particularly grocery prices, fell flat.
When asked about the high cost of groceries, Harris conceded that prices are indeed “too high.” However, her admission was met with skepticism, given her role as sitting vice president and her administration’s inability to effectively address the issue.
Harris attempted to pivot, framing herself as a “new generation of leadership” that would “turn the page” on the current era. However, her remarks were quickly seized upon by the Trump campaign, which released a statement from Janiyah Thomas, Team Trump Black Media Director, highlighting Harris’s admission of failure.
The Trump War Room also shared clips of Harris’s interview, including her comments on inflation and its impact on Latino communities. Harris’s responses were panned by CNN’s Dana Bash, who quipped that her talking points could be used as a drinking game.
The RNC has been hammering Harris on the 21.5 percent price increase, and Harris’s inability to provide a clear plan to address inflation and high prices has raised eyebrows. Even CNN’s Dave Weigel noted the contrast between Harris and Trump’s responses to similar questions, with Harris struggling to articulate a clear vision for the future.
Harris’s interview with the NABJ was not an isolated incident, as she also spoke at the Hispanic Caucus on Wednesday. Her remarks, which included a cringeworthy accent and a declaration that she is “in these streets,” were widely panned.
Despite her attempts to outline a vision for the future, including lowering the cost of living and groceries, Harris’s inability to deliver results has raised questions about her effectiveness as a leader.
