House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has confirmed his intention to continue leading the GOP conference post-November elections, despite facing threats from fellow colleagues to remove him from his top leadership role.

Johnson expressed his plans to lead the House Republican conference in the future and has already started outlining a strategy for the party in the upcoming year. He emphasized that his main focus is to strengthen the party’s margin, which currently stands at just one vote.

He stressed the importance of governing the country effectively and mentioned that preparations for the next Congress are underway. Johnson highlighted his commitment to the party’s goals and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead. He also mentioned receiving support from former President Donald Trump, which could help solidify his position with the GOP conference.

However, Johnson’s confidence in his leadership role comes amidst a challenge from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) to remove him from his position before the year ends. Greene initially filed a motion to vacate over a month ago, causing uncertainty as Johnson navigated key legislative issues.

Although Greene had announced plans to bring the motion to a vote this week, significant opposition from both Republicans and Democrats has delayed the process. Greene recently met with Johnson to discuss a way forward, indicating a possible resolution in the near future. Despite this, Greene has made it clear that she believes Johnson will not be reelected as the party leader in the following year.

Various Republican lawmakers have also shown reservations about Johnson’s leadership moving forward, even those who have not supported the motion to vacate.
