A tragic discovery was made at Lake Ft. Phantom in Abilene, Texas, on Saturday, when the body of a female infant was found, according to the Abilene Police Department.

In a social media post on Tuesday, Lead Investigator Detective Scott revealed that patrol officers responded to a report of an infant’s body found near Sea Bee Park at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Upon arrival, officers found the deceased infant, who appeared to be a baby girl, and it was evident that she had been deceased for some time. The infant’s body was sent to Dallas for an autopsy, where her identity remains unknown.

As the investigation continues, Detective Scott is urging anyone with information about the infant’s death to come forward. “I’m seeking any and all information regarding her death, which is suspicious in nature,” he said. “Please contact me or Crime Stoppers to provide that information.”

The Abilene Police Department also took the opportunity to remind citizens about the new Safe Haven Baby Box located at Abilene’s Fire Station No. 7 on North Pioneer Drive. The baby box is the first in Texas and provides a safe and anonymous way for parents to surrender their newborns.

Under the state’s Baby Moses Law, parents who are unable to care for their infants 60 days and younger may surrender them to a designated emergency infant care provider without fear of prosecution.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Detective Scott or Abilene Crime Stoppers at (325) 676-8477 (TIPS).
