Chief of Police Lee Bercaw expressed condolences for the tragic loss of the child and emphasized the availability of resources for expectant mothers. The Tampa Police Department highlighted the Safe Haven Law in Florida, allowing parents to safely surrender an unharmed newborn infant up to seven days old without facing any consequences.
Forensic teams from TPD were observed near McKay Hall, where first-year students reside on campus, prompting a campus alert to avoid the area. The Medical Examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of the baby’s death and her developmental stage.
