A Delaware court has set a sentencing date for Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, on three gun-related charges. The sentencing is scheduled to take place on November 13, 2024, at the J. Caleb Boggs Federal Building in Wilmington, Delaware, just eight days after the 2024 presidential election.
In June, a Delaware jury delivered a guilty verdict on all three gun charges against Hunter Biden. The charges stem from a September 2023 indictment by Special Counsel David Weiss, which alleged that Biden made false statements in the purchase of a firearm, possessed a firearm while being an unlawful user of a controlled substance, and made false statements related to information required by a federally licensed firearms dealer.
Hunter Biden is facing significant penalties, including up to 25 years in prison, fines totaling approximately $750,000, and three years of supervised release. The sentencing date comes after a previously proposed plea deal fell through. The deal would have allowed Biden to plead guilty to failing to pay taxes on over $1.5 million in income from 2017 and 2018, with the option for immunity from future charges.
However, Judge Maryellen Noreika raised concerns about the plea deal, prompting its rejection. The case will now proceed to sentencing, with Biden facing the possibility of substantial prison time and fines.
