A man suspected of smuggling humans led Texas Department of Public Safety troopers on a chaotic chase that ended with the driver crashing into a tree. Video footage shows six individuals emerging from the stolen pickup truck after the crash.
The driver, identified as Carlos Lombardich-Villalobos from Lockhart, Texas, was apprehended and charged with multiple felonies after the pursuit and subsequent off-road collision. Despite the intense chase, the driver and the migrants escaped without sustaining significant injuries.
During the pursuit, captured by a DPS helicopter, the driver recklessly navigated through various intersections, narrowly avoiding collisions with other vehicles. The truck eventually veered off the road, traveling through rugged terrain before colliding with a tree.
Following the crash, the driver helped the six migrants out of the pickup truck, and they fled into the brush. However, they were eventually captured by troopers with the assistance of the helicopter crew.
Lombardich-Villabos now faces charges including Smuggling of Persons, Criminal Mischief, Criminal Trespass, Deadly Conduct, and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. The stolen Dodge Ram pickup truck was reported stolen in Bastrop, Texas.
The six migrants were apprehended and turned over to Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents.
