Amid widespread campus protests in the US, universities like Columbia University, UCLA, and Northwestern University have seen violent occupations and disorderly activities by students opposing Israel’s actions in Gaza. More than 2,000 people have been arrested for campus violence so far, affecting 43 universities.
Brown University announced that it would consider divesting from projects in Israel, succumbing to protester demands. In Iran, Shiraz University and Tehran University are offering scholarships to expelled students for supporting Hamas, covering all costs. Similarly, in Yemen, Sanaa University is welcoming Americans suspended from universities for supporting terrorism, condemning US universities for suppressing freedom of expression.
The Houthis, controlling Sanaa University in Yemen, are backed by Iran and have launched terrorist attacks in the Red Sea, threatening ships in the region. Both Iran and the Houthis are repressive towards dissent, with Iran having brutally cracked down on student protests in the past. The Houthis have imposed strict regulations on Sanaa University, segregating class schedules by gender and limiting women’s freedom on campus.
