Harris’s Economic Agenda Under Fire from Both Sides

0:00

Not all liberal-leaning media outlets are giving Vice President Kamala Harris’s newly unveiled economic plan a free pass. Despite her campaign’s efforts to present a comprehensive plan to fight inflation, some outlets are raising concerns that her approach may be misguided.

A CNN article questioned the effectiveness of Harris’s plan to combat price gouging, suggesting that it could create more problems than it solves. The Washington Post published a scathing op-ed, dismissing Harris’s ideas as “gimmicks” and arguing that they fail to address the root causes of inflation.

Economic experts are also weighing in, with one economist telling ABC that price increases at grocery stores are not a primary driver of inflation. He cautioned against cherry-picking data, noting that most of the inflation over the past few years has been caused by increases in costs.

However, not everyone is critical of Harris’s plan. CNN commentator Van Jones praised her for “boldly” calling out price gouging, arguing that most Americans are more concerned about being ripped off by big grocery stores than by tech CEOs.

Meanwhile, Republicans are accusing the media of creating a “manufactured” narrative around Harris, suggesting that they are giving her a free pass and failing to hold her to the same standards as other candidates. RNC co-chairwoman Lara Trump has been vocal in her criticism, arguing that the media is running mostly positive coverage of Harris while allowing her to evade tough questions.

Conservative commentator Tim Carney has also chimed in, arguing that media bias is evident in the overwhelmingly positive coverage of Harris. He claims that many in the media fail to critically evaluate their preferred candidates, leaving it to conservative outlets to fill the gap and report on facts that might otherwise go unreported.

As the Democratic National Convention gets underway and the first presidential debate approaches, it remains to be seen how Harris’s economic plan will be received by the public and the media. One thing is certain, however: Harris will no longer be able to avoid the national spotlight, and her policies will be subject to increasing scrutiny.
