Harris Suggests Holding Vice Presidential Debate with Trump’s Pick in July or August

Vice President Kamala Harris has agreed to participate in a debate with the running mate of former President Donald Trump, as invited by CBS News. The vice presidential debate is expected to take place in a studio without a live audience on either July 23 or Aug. 13, as per the Biden campaign.

The Biden campaign spokesperson stated that the debate would follow the campaign’s guidelines and expressed hope that the Trump campaign would confirm one of the proposed dates. As of now, Trump has not announced his vice presidential pick, with Gov. Doug Burgum being considered a potential candidate.

Both Biden and Trump have agreed to two debates before the general election, with the first scheduled for June 27 on CNN and the second on Sept. 10 on ABC News. Trump has suggested a third debate on Oct. 2 on Fox News, despite the network not hosting a Democratic primary debate in 2020.

The debate schedule was finalized this week after Biden accepted Trump’s challenge for a debate. While Biden agreed to two debates, Trump is pushing for at least four debates to be included in the schedule.

The Trump campaign managers have argued for more debate opportunities to allow the American people to hear from the candidates, citing concerns about inflation, the border situation, and other issues impacting the country. This agreement between the campaigns marks a departure from the traditional method of negotiating debates through the Commission on Presidential Debates.
