During Ohio State University’s commencement ceremony, a tragic incident occurred where one person fell from the stands and was pronounced dead. The identity of the victim and the circumstances surrounding the fall are currently unknown, as the Franklin County Coroner’s Office is working to identify the individual.

Despite the tragedy, the commencement ceremonies continued as scheduled without any reference made to the incident. Ohio State University spokesman Ben Johnson confirmed the unfortunate event, stating that counseling and support resources would be available for those affected.

The incident took place as students were entering Ohio Stadium for the ceremony, with one witness recalling seeing the person fall as the last graduates were entering the stadium. Ohio Stadium, where the commencement was held, has a capacity of up to 100,000 people.

Ohio State University awarded a total of 12,555 degrees on that day to doctoral, master’s, graduate professional, and undergraduate students. The school has one of the highest enrollments amongst American colleges and universities.
