Google’s Pixel 9 Pro XL: A Spec-Packed Rival to Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra

0:00

Google has officially taken the wraps off the Pixel 9 Pro XL at its Made by Google event, and the device is certainly making a statement. As a larger iteration of the Pixel 9 Pro, it boasts the latest Tensor G4 processor and an impressive 16GB of RAM, making it well-suited for AI-driven tasks. To complement this, the phone comes with a one-year subscription to Google’s One AI Premium Plan, granting users unrestricted access to the advanced capabilities of Google Gemini.

The camera system has undergone significant enhancements, building upon the already impressive photography and videography capabilities of Pixel phones. The triple rear camera setup is accompanied by a high-resolution 42 MP front camera, allowing for algorithmically enhanced 8K footage and the long-awaited introduction of Super Res Zoom for video recording.

Notably, the XL variant is largely an upsized version of the Pixel 9 Pro, with the primary differentiators being slightly faster charging and a larger display. However, the display itself is a notable highlight, featuring a 6.8-inch Super Actua OLED screen that promises to deliver “true-to-life colors” even in direct sunlight, thanks to a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. The Pixel 9 Pro XL will be available in four color options – obsidian, rose quartz, and hazel – and will start at a price point of $1,100.

As the Pixel 9 Pro XL prepares to enter the market, it will face stiff competition from established rivals, including the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, which has already garnered significant attention since its release in January. Our review of the Galaxy S24 Ultra praised its AI tools, durable titanium frame, exceptional battery life, and vibrant display. Now, the question remains: how will the Pixel 9 Pro XL stack up against this formidable competitor? A closer examination of the specs is in order.
