In a sea of change at the GOP’s convention, one face stood out as a constant, nostalgic figure – former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. The 30-year anniversary of the Republican takeover of Congress in 1994 was marked by a “Newt! Newt! Newt!” chant, with even a single woman shouting, “We love you!” as he took to the stage.
Since leaving Congress in 1999, Gingrich has remained a beloved, influential voice within the party, emphasizing his views on American exceptionalism. His recent foreign policy-focused speech echoed this perspective.
“President Trump understands that the world is precarious and requires extraordinary effort to defeat anti-American and anti-freedom forces globally. He also acknowledges that when faced with multiple enemies across the world, the Reagan principles of peaceful coexistence through strength represent the sole road to safety for the American people.”
Despite some conservatives criticizing what they view as a decline of President Reagan’s principles in the party, Gingrich defended President Trump’s policies.
“The juxtaposition between President Trump’s realistic and forthright policies, emphasizing strength, compared to President Biden’s policies of appeasement, weakness, and self-deception will likely prove the most significant difference between Trump’s “Make America Great Again” movement and the liberal ideology of the Democrats.”
His wife, Callista Gingrich, addressed the crowd earlier in her speech, focusing on what she claims is Biden’s assault on religious freedoms. According to her, the administration utilizes the power of government to impose intolerant beliefs on religious individuals.
Newt Gingrich zeroed in on failures resulting from Biden’s weakness. Mentioning Afghanistan’s withdrawal, anti-Semitic attacks on Israel, and the occupation of Ukraine, he argued that the Republican ticket must stand for strength if it wants to win in November. His parting message echoed Truman Churchill’s and Abraham Lincoln’s famous principles: “The battle in this fall’s election is unambiguous: you can vote for weaknesses and war under Biden, or, for the greater good, you must choose strength and peace with President Trump, this election’s only option,” Gingrich proclaimed.
