Thursday brought another day of relief for consumers as gas prices continued to decrease across the country.
The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gasoline dropped to $3.569, according to AAA. This was cheaper than Wednesday’s price, which was $3.575 per gallon. It marks the third straight day gas prices have dropped. On Tuesday, the average cost for regular gas was $3.592 per gallon, and on Monday, it was $3.593. The downward trend in prices started before Memorial Day weekend.
Thursday’s prices also mark a decrease from this time last week, when the cost for a gallon of regular gas was $3.615. It is also a drop from a month ago, when regular gas cost $3.657 per gallon, to over a year ago, when gas prices were $3.579 for a gallon.
California remains the state with the most expensive gas, with a regular gas costing $5.091 per gallon. This slightly decreased from Wednesday’s price of $5.104 per gallon. It is also cheaper than a week ago when the average price was $5.155 for a gallon of regular gas.
Mississippi is still the state with the cheapest gas prices in the nation, at $3.035 per gallon. However, this was a slight increase from Wednesday, when gas prices were $3.034 per gallon. Both prices are lower than a week ago when the average gallon of regular gas cost was $3.064.

Here are the gas prices for a gallon of regular-grade gas in and around Washington, D.C., and a few other states.Â
Washington, D.C.
The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in the nation’s capital continues to be more expensive than the average price in the country. On Wednesday, regular gas in Washington, D.C., cost $3.699 per gallon. This is a slight decrease from Wednesday’s price of $3.701 per gallon. A week ago, a gallon of regular gas was $3.704 .Â
Maryland
In Maryland, a gallon of regular-grade gas is $3.663. This is a decrease from Wednesday’s gas costs of $3.671 per gallon. Thursday’s prices for regular gas in Maryland are also cheaper than what it was this time last week when gas cost $3.666 per gallon.Â
Virginia
The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Virginia on Tuesday is $3.447. This is a decrease from Wednesday’s average price of $3.454 per gallon. Both prices were less expensive than a week ago when prices stood at $3.470 per gallon.
Delaware
Gas prices in Delaware remained the same as on Wednesday when the cost was $3.536 per gallon. This was an increase from last week when it cost $3.523 per gallon for regular-grade gasoline. However, it is lower than the previous month’s price of $3.655 per gallon.
Ohio
Gas prices in the Buckeye state stood at $3.44 per gallon on Thursday. This was a decrease from Wednesday’s prices, when it cost $3.463 for a gallon of regular gas. Both prices are less expensive than a week ago, when they were $3.560 per gallon, and a month ago, when they were $3.475.
New Jersey
New Jersey’s gas prices stood at $3.493 per gallon on Thursday, cheaper than the national average. Thursday’s prices were also less expensive than Wednesday’s, when gas cost $3.496 per gallon. This was also a drop from gas prices in the state last week when it cost $3.515 per gallon for regular gas. And a month ago, gas prices had climbed up to $3.598 per gallon in the Garden State.
