Former RNC chairman suggests Trump campaigns with fear of losing

In a recent commentary on The Weekend, former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele voiced his concerns about Donald Trump’s ongoing campaign to sow doubts about election integrity. Steele criticized Trump’s tactics, calling them “weak” and driven by fear of losing and ego. He noted that Trump’s repeated claims of election fraud are baseless and that any potential loss in the upcoming election would simply reflect the will of the voters.

Despite their past disagreements over the 2020 election, former Attorney General Bill Barr has endorsed Trump for the 2024 election. Barr had previously stated that there was no significant election interference, causing a rift between him and Trump. Steele, who backed Joe Biden in 2020, has not yet endorsed a candidate for the upcoming election but is likely to support the incumbent president.

Trump’s focus on mail-in ballots as a source of fraud has softened, as he himself received significant support from absentee and mail-in voters in 2020. In contrast, President Biden garnered a majority of his votes through absentee and mail-in ballots. Despite Trump’s claims of seeking “honest” elections, his shifting stance on mail-in ballots raises questions about the validity of his concerns.
