Flashback: Liz Cheney’s Past Criticisms of Kamala Harris Forgotten in 2024 Endorsement

Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) made a surprising endorsement in the 2024 election, throwing her support behind Vice President Kamala Harris. Speaking at a Duke University event titled “Defending Democracy,” Cheney emphasized the importance of preventing Donald Trump from winning the presidency.

Cheney, a self-described conservative, explained that her decision to endorse Harris was motivated by her deep concern about the danger Trump poses to the country. “I have thought deeply about this, and because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris,” she said.

This endorsement marks a significant shift for Cheney, who has previously been critical of Harris’s policies. In a past post on X, Cheney accused Harris of wanting to “recreate America in the image of what’s happening on the streets of Portland & Seattle.” However, it appears that Cheney’s opposition to Trump has led her to put aside her differences with Harris.

Cheney’s decision to endorse Harris is also notable given her own history with Trump. She lost her primary election in 2022 to Harriet Hageman, a candidate backed by Trump. At the time, Cheney vowed to continue fighting against Trump, saying “now the real work begins.” Her endorsement of Harris is a clear indication that she intends to follow through on that promise.
