An enthusiastic fan took matters into her own hands when the WNBA failed to broadcast the league debut of Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso. Despite claiming to air the game between the Minnesota Lynx and the Chicago Sky, the WNBA app only showed Caitlin Clark’s debut with the Indiana Fever.
In stepped a user named Alli, who volunteered to stream the game herself on social media platform X. The stream quickly gained popularity, reaching nearly 434,000 views at one point on Saturday.
Alli’s initiative drew attention to the WNBA in a way that no executive has managed to do in 25 years. Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve even suggested that viewers should support Alli by sending her a donation.
Reeve acknowledged the rapid growth of the WNBA and emphasized the need for change in the league’s approach to business. Despite Clark’s debut receiving the broadcast, Reeve highlighted the general excitement surrounding the WNBA and the importance of capitalizing on that momentum.
While Reese’s Chicago Sky ultimately lost to the Lynx, she had a strong debut with 13 points and nine rebounds in 24 minutes of play. Overall, the night proved to be a significant moment for the WNBA.
