Drag Queen Speaker Urges Support for Transgender Children at Texas Democratic Convention

Self-described “drag queen” Brigitte Bandit, who claims to be a biological female, was a featured speaker at the Texas Democratic Convention on Saturday and told the audience that they had “a duty” to support hormone blockers for transgender children.

“Hormone blockers that are medically necessary for more than just trans youth,” Bandit said. “Gender-affirming care is lifesaving. We have a duty to protect our most marginalized communities. Trans kids deserve to grow into healthy adults.”

The drag queen bragged about having spent a decade working with children and performing drag shows for young audiences.

“I’m a product of the Texas public school system. I have worked with children for over a decade, and now I am a full-time drag queen in Austin, Texas,” Bandit said to the cheering audience.

Bandit added, “Sometimes I read books to children in drag. While some may argue that reading a book to children in a long-sleeve hot pink gown and cotton candy-colored wig is appropriate. The truth is, children are safer at a drag time story hour than at their own schools.

“Free Palestine, long live Texas drag, protect trans kids, and happy Pride Month, everybody,” the convention speaker said in closing.

The performer is currently hosting a drag show called “Big T**s Bigger Dreams” at the Cheer Up Charles nightclub and is known for being featured in Austin’s “Family Dragtivity Day,” where children can get face-painting and story hour readings.

The drag queen has been active in Texas politics and sued the state over Texas Senate Bill 12, a bill that would prevent children from attending sexually oriented performances on public property. The bill was stopped by a federal judge questioning constitutionality.

“F*** Ted Cruz! F*** Greg Abbott! Trans Texans belong here! Drag queens belong here!” Bandit said in reaction to the demise of the bill.

The drag queen had a social media feud this weekend with Libs of TikTok’s Chaya Raichik.

Raichik called the performer a “groomer,” and the drag personality responded by saying, “I much prefer teaching children about real people and heroes in history as a drag queen than teaching about them about hell or telling a story about God killing everyone in a flood like I did as a youth group leader.”

Bandit added, “Only one of those is grooming and indoctrination and it’s not the one teaching kids about reality. I did more harm to children as a leader in my church teaching them about fear and intolerance than I ever have as a drag queen teaching acceptance and truth.”

The performer said the backlash after Saturday’s convention speech had surprisingly been the largest response to Bandit’s activism.

“The backlash I got in that first 24 hours is more than I had over the past two times I testified in court, that entire period, combined,” Bandit said to a local Texas news outlet.

The performer is reportedly a biological female drag performer who uses makeup, wigs, and prosthetics to “amplify” the drag performance.

“To everyone in my mentions calling me a man: I’m born female and not a man and by thinking I am just because I’m wearing a wig and makeup just proves that gender is socially constructed and y’all are f***ing stupid,” Bandit wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
