Walt Disney World in Florida has sparked controversy by casting a man to play the evil queen from “Snow White” in drag at its Wilderness Lodge resort, as seen in a viral video. According to That Park Place, a family dining at the resort also encountered the performer, noting the character had a man’s voice.
The Wilderness Lodge offers various dining experiences, including a character meet-and-greet with Snow White. In the video, the performer playing the evil queen interacts with a visitor who expresses excitement about the character.
This incident is not the first time Disney has incorporated drag performers in its theme parks. Disneyland in Anaheim previously featured a male employee in drag greeting children at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. The company has been promoting gender non-conformity by introducing transgender characters in children’s shows and hosting pride-themed events with drag queen performers.
Disney has made efforts to create more gender-neutral environments in its parks, including changing greetings to be more inclusive and implementing gender-neutral restrooms. The controversy at Wilderness Lodge highlights ongoing discussions about representation and inclusivity in entertainment.
