The Swanton Sector in the U.S.-Canada border continues to see a surge in migrant arrests, breaking weekly records back-to-back in April. Chief Patrol Agent Robert Garcia announced that 492 migrants were arrested during the week of April 28 to May 4, surpassing the total arrests made in the sector in Fiscal Year 2021. This marks a significant increase from the previous weekly record of 220 arrests made in the week of April 22. A Border Patrol report reveals that in April alone, nearly 1,500 migrants were apprehended, more than double the number from April 2023. Year-to-date totals for the Swanton Sector have exceeded 6,600 migrants, a nearly 100% increase from last year. Additionally, a recent tweet by Chief Patrol Agent Robert Garcia highlighted the cooperation between Border Patrol Agents and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in apprehending Mexican nationals attempting to avoid detection. These statistics point to a growing trend of migrant apprehensions in the Swanton Sector.
