In a recent interview with ABC News, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, speaking in a personal capacity, expressed skepticism about claims that the Bureau of Labor Statistics had significantly revised its job creation numbers downward. When questioned by host Kayna Whitworth about the reported revision of over 800,000 jobs, Raimondo stated that she was “not familiar” with the development.

Whitworth had played a clip of 2024 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who alleged that the administration had artificially inflated job numbers to boast about its economic performance. Raimondo dismissed Trump’s assertion, saying she didn’t believe it due to his history of dishonesty.
When Whitworth pointed out that the revised numbers came from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Raimondo reiterated her unfamiliarity with the data. Instead, she shifted the focus to the economic policies of another candidate, highlighting their emphasis on innovation, business support, and cost reduction. Raimondo cited her own conversations with business leaders, who she claimed were optimistic about these policies and their potential to address pressing issues such as housing, childcare, and food costs.
