A 100-year-old veteran who served in three wars finally received his long-awaited diploma from the University of Maryland Global Campus in College Park, Maryland. Air Force Officer John “Jack” Milton earned his bachelor’s degree 58 years ago but was never able to attend the graduation ceremony due to being sent to Vietnam. Milton served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, and his diploma was delivered during a special luncheon at the university. The ceremony was a touching moment for Milton, who expressed gratitude for the recognition. Additionally, Milton was unofficially adopted into the family of Ugandan immigrant Nora Ubala after his wife passed away in 2014. Ubala considers Milton to be like a father and her children refer to him as their grandfather.
