CNN’s Primetime Ratings Hit 33-Year Low

0:00

“CNN experienced its lowest ratings among primetime viewers in the key demographic coveted by advertisers” since 1991, reports the New York Post.

“The cable channel … drew just 83,000 viewers aged 25 to 54 during the week of May 13-19 from 8 to 11 p.m. — its lowest-rated week since 1991, according to Nielsen.”

Unbelievable!

INCREDIBLE.

For total viewers during this period, CNN averaged only 494,000 viewers. In contrast, MSNBC averaged 1.1 million, and Fox News drew two million.

Consider this…

Before diving into my favorite part, let’s address this… Some might see these numbers and think, No one wants to watch a left-wing propaganda outlet that spreads conspiracy theories and political violence. However…

Plenty of people watch MSNBC.

So, the problem with CNN is not just all the hoaxes they’ve perpetuated…

…since MSNBC shares the same habits. MSNBC spreads the same hoaxes. There is a reason why you never see Rachel Maddow and Jake Tapper in the same room.

CNN has assembled the most unappealing group of anchors in TV history. If you swap MSNBC anchors with CNN’s, CNN would gain a million viewers while MSNBC would plummet.

  • Jake “Smug Election Meddler” Tapper?
  • Wolf “I Lost on Jeopardy” Blitzer?
  • Erin “Shark Eyes” Burnett?
  • Anderson “Tea Bag” Cooper?
  • Kaitlan “Nurse Ratched” Collins?

These are cold, dull, sanctimonious, unappealing, humorless, narcissistic personalities. No one wants to spend an hour with them. It takes effort to hire that many unappealing figures.

Here’s my favorite part because it validates everything I’ve been predicting for 15 years…

Thoroughly disgraced CNN chief Mark “Thompson better get his act together before he completely destroys CNN,” a top news producer told the New York Post. “It seems like he’s given up on cable.”

It seems like he’s given up on cable.

This suggests that CNN can no longer sustain itself without the left-wing affirmative action of cable/satellite TV, where CNN makes a dollar or so every month from every subscriber of an overpriced cable TV package that includes CNN.

If CNN is part of your cable package, you are subsidizing CNN (and MTV, Disney Channel, Comedy Central, MSNBC, etc.) regardless of whether you watch.

The rigged cable game has sustained CNN for decades because, without those unearned cable dollars, CNN is not popular enough to survive. The self-proclaimed “most trusted name in news” could never survive on merit, i.e., advertising revenue earned from viewership.

As more people cancel their cable TV subscriptions and move to streaming, CNN (and other low-rated channels) lose critical revenue. CNN will soon reach a point where too few people subscribe to cable to cover their production costs — especially without significant advertising money.

And we already know CNN cannot survive purely on merit. Remember this?

CNN has lost its credibility, lost its viewership, and now it’s teetering on the brink of losing its cable network.

Remarkable.
