Celebrating War, Even in Just Causes, is Never Justifiable.

In times of just war, it is common for those involved to take pleasure in the destruction and violence that comes with it. Recently, several conservative commentators were seen making bloodthirsty and inhumane remarks about Israel’s missile strikes in Gaza, following attacks by Hamas in 2023. These commentators posted videos of the strikes in Rafah, with comments applauding the destruction and urging for more casualties. While it is important to support Israel’s mission to eliminate Hamas from Gaza, it is crucial to remember that war, in any form, is a tragedy that should not be glorified.

Dehumanizing the enemy has always been a tactic in warfare to make killing easier. However, using derogatory language to describe them does not justify celebrating their deaths. It is vital to have a strong moral compass to distinguish between just and unjust wars. Instead of rejoicing in the loss of life in Rafah and other parts of Gaza, those supporting the fight against Hamas should acknowledge the tragedy of war and pray for a swift and merciful resolution.
