Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) praised President Joe Biden’s announcement that the United States would withhold weaponry from Israel in the event of an invasion of Hamas’s last stronghold in Rafah.
In a social media post, Omar expressed solidarity with the youth-led protests against Israel that had been taking place on college campuses nationwide.

Amidst the protests, Omar’s daughter, Isra Hirsi, faced consequences for her involvement in an anti-Israel encampment at Columbia University.
The protesters had outlined various demands, including divestment from Israeli companies, ending academic relations with Israel, and urging for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Biden reiterated his stance on withholding weapons from Israel if they were to escalate tensions in Rafah, emphasizing the civilian casualties in Gaza that have resulted from such actions. Despite Israel’s recent military movements in Rafah, tensions remain high as efforts to secure a truce continue.
