Catholic League President Defends Kansas City Chiefs Kicker for Promoting Catholic Values

The president of the Catholic League, Bill Donohue, has defended Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, who has faced backlash for promoting Catholic values during a speech at a Catholic college. Donohue highlights the criticism Butker received for speaking out against gender ideology, surrogacy, euthanasia, and abortion, as well as his support for marriage at Benedictine College.

Donohue criticizes the Associated Press for its biased views on conservative Catholic colleges like Benedictine, contrasting it with more liberal institutions like Georgetown. He argues that mainstream media would have praised Butker if he had endorsed certain ideologies, showing a double standard in their coverage.

Donohue points out that Butker’s comments on marriage and family are in line with the preferences of many American women, as shown by a Gallup poll. He also mentions the backlash Butker received for criticizing Joe Biden’s actions at a pro-abortion rally.

In a subsequent column, Donohue condemns the NFL for distancing itself from Butker, stating that the league’s actions show contempt for Butker, Benedictine College, and Catholicism. He argues that Butker’s views represent the beliefs of many Americans, not just Catholics.
