Car Accident in Croatia Kills Four Migrants, Injures Five

In southern Croatia, a tragic accident occurred when a car carrying migrants skidded off the road and crashed into a wall, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and serious injuries to five others. The driver of the car was reportedly driving at high speeds after evading a police checkpoint, although it is unknown whether the driver was killed in the crash or injured. Croatian media indicated that the driver was attempting to escape police due to involvement in people smuggling activities. The passengers, including a child, were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic stated that the driver lost control of the car while attempting to navigate a curve at excessive speed, emphasizing that it was not a typical car chase situation. The car had foreign license plates, and authorities are searching for another vehicle that was present at the scene but fled the scene.

Croatia, a member of the European Union, is a common entry point for migrants seeking to reach Western Europe. These migrants often enlist the help of smugglers to facilitate their unauthorized border crossings into countries like Slovenia and Italy. The accident took place near the town of Sinj, just 18.6 kilometers from the Bosnian border.
