President Joe Biden, 81, has confirmed that he will debate former President Donald Trump at least once. The announcement was made by Biden campaign spokeswoman Adrienne Elrod on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. This comes after months of speculation, with Biden initially expressing his willingness to debate Trump on the Howard Stern Show in April.
Trump promptly called for the debate to take place live on television at the Manhattan courthouse, but Biden, described as “an elderly man with a poor memory” by Special Counsel Robert Hur, declined the offer. This led to speculation about Biden’s sincerity in agreeing to the debate.
Despite doubts about his mental and physical fitness, Biden’s camp reiterated his commitment to debating Trump. Meanwhile, the Trump campaign demanded that the Commission on Presidential Debates schedule events early and frequently to accommodate early voting.
The Commission has already set a schedule for three presidential debates and a vice-presidential debate, starting in September. Trump’s campaign managers have expressed a desire for the debates to begin earlier, emphasizing the importance of these events. A Fox News poll showed that the majority of voters believe Biden skipping the debates would demonstrate weakness.
