Cameron Asserts UK Will Maintain Arms Sales to Israel

British Foreign Secretary David Cameron stated that the UK will not halt arms supplies to Israel, in contrast to US President Joe Biden’s decision to suspend some weapons shipments and threaten further military aid cuts if Israel proceeds with its planned invasion of Rafah to target Hamas terrorists.

Cameron emphasized that cutting off weapons to Israel would not be beneficial, pointing out past instances where such actions led to increased attacks on Israel. He also highlighted the differences between the UK and the US in their arms supply to Israel, with the UK providing less than 1% of Israel’s weapons through a strict licensing system.

Additionally, Cameron criticized the BBC for its coverage of the conflict, questioning why the network was hesitant to label Hamas as terrorists given their violent actions. He stressed the importance of sticking to legal processes when dealing with international conflicts.

Despite Biden’s threats, Israel’s government voted to expand its military operation in Rafah while continuing negotiations with Hamas for the release of hostages. The White House offered intelligence on Hamas leaders to Israel to prevent further escalation of the conflict.

Cameron warned against the potential dangers of the Rafah offensive, urging Israel to have a plan to protect civilians in the area. He reiterated that the responsibility ultimately lies with Hamas to end the suffering by accepting peaceful resolutions.

The ongoing tensions in the region have raised concerns about a possible regional war, underscoring the need for diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.
