Boeing 737 Forced to Make Emergency Landing in Japan Due to Wing Flap Issue

0:00

A United Airlines Boeing 737 had to make an emergency landing at Japan’s Fukuoka Airport due to an irregularity in the wing flap. The incident occurred while the flight was en route to Guam, with no injuries reported among the 50 passengers and crew on board. The runway was temporarily closed for safety checks, but was reopened after the inspections were completed.

Video footage showing the plane’s emergency landing was shared on social media. This incident comes as Boeing is facing safety concerns, with a recent incident in Senegal where a plane skidded off the runway, resulting in injuries to several passengers. Additionally, a whistleblower from Spirit AeroSystems in Kansas claimed he was pressured to ignore defects in plane parts and not to prioritize safety over meeting production quotas.

Boeing CEO David Calhoun has been summoned by Congress amid these safety concerns and whistleblower claims. Calhoun’s impending retirement is seen as a response to the ongoing safety crisis faced by Boeing since the crashes of its Max 8 jets in 2018 and 2019.
