Bill and Hillary Clinton Throw Support Behind Kamala Harris as Democratic Presidential Hopeful

Former President Bill Clinton and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, have thrown their support behind Vice President Kamala Harris, endorsing her to lead the Democratic presidential ticket following President Joe Biden’s surprise decision to drop out of the 2024 race. The Clintons issued a statement on Sunday afternoon, expressing their “honor” in joining Biden in endorsing Harris and vowing to do everything in their power to support her.

The statement highlighted the couple’s concerns about the potential consequences of a second Trump term, citing the former president’s promises to become a dictator and the recent Supreme Court ruling that will “embolden him to further shred the Constitution.” The Clintons urged supporters to rally behind Harris, warning that now is the time to “fight with everything we’ve got” to elect her.

Biden’s decision to drop out of the race came after weeks of mounting pressure from dozens of Democratic lawmakers, who had called for him to step aside following his lackluster debate performance last month. In a subsequent post, the president endorsed Harris as his replacement, but it remains unclear whether she will secure the nomination without facing a challenge. If party leaders like the Clintons endorse Harris, however, it could stifle any potential challengers.

Despite initial resistance to the calls for him to drop out, Biden had remained defiant in the face of mounting criticism, only to ultimately decide to suspend his campaign on Sunday.
