The United Kingdom is reportedly considering sending British troops to aid the Gaza Strip via a floating pier constructed by the United States military, as per the BBC. The UK plans to use soldiers to transport aid trucks from the pier to the shores of Gaza, although final approval is pending from Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

The United States has stated that no American military personnel will be on the ground, and a third-party country will handle the truck transportation. The UK has been actively involved in the project, providing resources and assistance for the construction of the pier and aid screening processes in Florida and Cyprus.

The Biden administration aims to begin aid deliveries to Gaza in early May through the JLOTS operation, complementing the aid already sent by land. The Israel Defense Forces have pledged support for the initiative but concerns remain about potential attacks from Hamas. The effectiveness of the aid delivery is also questioned due to potential diversion by Hamas.

Defense Secretary Grant Shapps emphasized the importance of establishing additional aid routes for Gaza and highlighted UK’s role in coordinating with the US and international partners. The decision to deploy British troops for aid delivery remains unconfirmed.
