Arizona Border Patrol Agent Arrested for Human Smuggling

A Border Patrol agent in Arizona was taken into custody last week on allegations of human smuggling, according to the District Attorney in Cameron County.

Jail documentation indicates that Jorge Alonso faces charges of smuggling and criminal conspiracy.

A news release from the Cameron County DA revealed that Alonso allegedly instructed and guided an undocumented immigrant to falsely claim entry, including presenting a forged U.S. birth certificate.

Authorities believe Alonso’s intent was to create a foundation for additional illegal crossings utilizing the fraudulent document. Jail records state that Alonso is awaiting arraignment.
