At WWDC 2024, Apple’s keynote revealed the introduction of Apple Intelligence and an exciting partnership with OpenAI to incorporate ChatGPT into Siri. SVP Craig Federighi also announced plans to collaborate with additional third-party models. During his talk, he highlighted one of the companies Apple is considering for future partnerships.

“We’re excited about integrating other models, such as Google Gemini, in the future,” Federighi mentioned in a discussion following the keynote. He quickly clarified, “We have no announcements to make at this time, but that’s the direction we’re headed.”

The integration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT will debut later this year. Apple assures users will be able to utilize the system without needing to create an account or subscribe to premium services. With the updated iOS 18 Siri, Federighi stated that the voice assistant will notify users before switching to external models.

“Now, you can access it directly via Siri, without additional tools,” Federighi explained. “It’s crucial to note that Siri will ask for your permission before connecting to ChatGPT. The conversation can then proceed with ChatGPT. If any useful data is referenced, Siri will ask, ‘Do you want to send this photo?’ From a privacy standpoint, you remain in complete control and have full transparency.”
