Residents in a La Mesa neighborhood were shocked to wake up to find antisemitic flyers in their yards on Sunday. Similar hate flyers have also been found in certain College Area neighborhoods. Real estate agent Jackie Metcalf was horrified when she discovered one of these flyers in a yard while doing a final walk-through of a home she sold in the La Mesa neighborhood.
The flyers contained antisemitic images and information, with one referencing a state bill called the ‘Stop Hate Littering Act.’ San Diego Councilmember Raul Campillo and Assemblymember Christopher Ward worked on the bill, which would penalize those distributing hate materials with fines up to $25,000.
Campillo explained that the distribution of hate materials can lead to radicalization in communities, potentially resulting in acts of violence. La Mesa police are urging anyone who finds these flyers to report it immediately. Residents like Berek Fiszlewicz expressed concern for their families’ safety but emphasized the importance of speaking out against hate.
