A Family Divided: Kerry Kennedy Condemns Brother’s Decision to Back Trump

Kerry Kennedy, daughter of the late Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, spoke out against her brother’s shocking endorsement of former President Donald Trump on MSNBC’s “Inside” Sunday. She likened her brother’s decision to suspend his independent presidential bid and back Trump to “setting fire to my father’s memory.”

Host Jen Psaki asked Kennedy why she felt compelled to speak out at this moment. Kennedy replied, “The stakes in November couldn’t be higher, which is why my family will be fighting tirelessly to re-elect Kamala Harris and other champions of the values we’ve fought for for years. Donald Trump is the antithesis of everything we stand for. He’s a threat to the fundamental freedoms that define us as Americans.”

Kennedy emphasized the importance of protecting women’s reproductive rights, ending gun violence, and promoting equality. She asserted that her father, the real Robert Kennedy, would have been appalled by Trump’s actions and values. “Dad would have detested Trump’s dishonesty, selfishness, and hatred,” she said. “He would have been outraged by Trump’s racist and fascist sympathies, his spread of misinformation about vaccines, and his contempt for the poor and suffering.”

Kennedy also criticized Trump’s treatment of women, citing his alleged rape of E. Jean Carroll, and his disdain for ethics, democracy, and human rights. She expressed her outrage and disgust at her brother’s decision to endorse Trump, stating, “I completely disavow and dissociate myself from Robert Kennedy Jr. and his attempt to desecrate my father’s memory.”
