Trade Representative Katherine Tai: Tariffs on China Not Directly Linked to Inflation

0:00

During an interview on NPR’s “Morning Edition,” U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai addressed concerns about the Biden administration’s tariff policy towards China.

She stated that studies have shown there is no direct link between these tariffs and inflation.

Tai also pointed out that reducing dependence on China helps protect against inflation caused by supply chain issues.

In response to a question about maintaining tariffs set by the Trump administration, Tai emphasized the importance of investing in domestic industries to build resilience in supply chains and manufacturing capacities. This, she argued, would help prevent price spikes due to supply restrictions in the future.
