An individual without legal status has been accused of killing a 33-year-old woman in Berkeley County, West Virginia, after allegedly attacking two homeless individuals with baseball bats and causing serious injuries in Jefferson County, West Virginia. David Antonio Calderon, a 46-year-old undocumented immigrant from El Salvador, has been arrested in Frederick County, Virginia, after a warrant was issued for his arrest in Berkeley County for the alleged murder of a woman earlier this month.

Law enforcement discovered the woman’s body on May 6 after firefighters put out a fire on a couch in Berkeley County. The woman had been reported missing from Jefferson County’s home confinement program. In April, Calderon is accused of randomly attacking two homeless individuals with baseball bats behind a Walmart store in Jefferson County, causing serious injuries. A warrant was issued for his arrest for malicious assault.

A few days after the discovery of the woman’s body, Calderon was arrested for the two attacks. Following his booking on assault charges, he was charged with the woman’s murder. Authorities from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office stated that Calderon had tried to seek asylum in Canada through the U.S. northern border but was denied. He was then handed over to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) custody and released with a Notice to Appear (NTA) before a federal immigration judge.

Calderon is currently in custody at the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center in Frederick County pending extradition to Berkeley County on the murder charges.
