Mel Gibson Shares His Thoughts on Trump and Harris

Mel Gibson has sparked controversy with his recent comments on politics, sparking debate about his stance on the upcoming presidential election. During a brief airport interview with TMZ, the actor-director seemed to hint at his support for former President Donald Trump, while criticizing Vice President Kamala Harris.

When asked about his thoughts on the impending presidential vote, Gibson responded with a hint of sarcasm, saying, “Oh man, that’s a big question.” A TMZ reporter then ventured a guess that Gibson would vote for Trump, to which he replied, “That’s a pretty good guess.” The exchange left little doubt about Gibson’s leanings.

However, it was his comments on Kamala Harris that drew the most attention. When asked about the potential implications of a second Trump term, Gibson instead chose to focus on Harris, describing her as having an “appalling track record” and an “IQ of a fence post.” Gibson’s comments painted a stark picture of what he perceives as Harris’s shortcomings.

Gibson’s comments have come at a time when he has been receiving praise from colleagues, including actor Andrew Garfield, who collaborated with Gibson on the 2016 film Hacksaw Ridge. Garfield recently reflected on his experience working with Gibson, saying that the actor had undergone a significant transformation since his infamous 2006 DUI arrest, during which he made anti-Semitic remarks.

Garfield credited Gibson with having “done a lot of beautiful healing with himself,” and praised him for being an “amazing filmmaker” with a “very big, compassionate heart.” Others, including Robert Downey Jr. and Jodie Foster, have publicly come to Gibson’s defense in the past, citing his talent and good intentions.

Gibson is set to return to the director’s chair in 2025 with the thriller Flight Risk, starring Mark Wahlberg.
