Campaign Event Takes Unforeseen Turn: Journalist Injured As Dem. Senate Candidate Fires AR-15

A rural campaign stop north of Kansas City for Missouri Democratic Senate candidate Lucas Kunce turned perilous when a local television reporter suffered an injury, apparently from a bullet fragment, while Kunce was discharging an AR-15 rifle.

According to eyewitness accounts and reports by The Kansas City Star, Kunce was the sole individual firing the weapon at the time of the incident. The reporter, identified as Ryan Gamboa of KSHB-TV, remained composed despite his injury, allowing Kunce to administer initial first aid by bandaging the wound.

The incident occurs at a critical juncture, with the election merely two weeks away. Kunce has been emphasizing his military background in a bid to resonate with voters, supplementing his campaign with advertisements featuring him engaging in target shooting. These visuals aim to showcase his proficiency and comfort with firearms.

Notably, Kunce’s stance on gun control aligns with key aspects of the Washington, D.C. Democratic platform. Specifically, he advocates for increasing the minimum age requirement for gun purchases, seeking to raise the threshold from 18 to 21 years old, as documented by OnTheIssues.org.
