Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) appeared on Fox News Sunday, where he defended his state’s initiatives providing drivers licenses, free tuition, and healthcare to undocumented immigrants. Host Shannon Bream questioned whether these policies serve as magnets, attracting individuals to make perilous journeys to the state.

Citing a Wall Street Journal report, Bream noted that Walz had signed laws allowing undocumented immigrants to access these benefits. She asked if these programs were not enticing people to come to Minnesota, often at great personal risk, and whether it was fair to expect taxpayers to foot the bill.

Walz countered that Minnesota’s approach has yielded positive results, pointing to the state’s strong business climate, high quality of life for children, and top-ranked healthcare access. He also highlighted the state’s impressive road safety record, implying that providing undocumented immigrants with drivers licenses has contributed to safer roads. Walz emphasized that the vice president’s border policies prioritize both strength and fairness.
