Former President Donald Trump has endorsed Riverton, Utah Mayor Trent Staggs for the Senate race in Utah, aiming to replace Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT). Trump took to Truth Social to express his support for Staggs, calling him a “100%” MAGA supporter and a successful entrepreneur, while criticizing Romney as a “total loser.” Staggs, who has experience serving on the Riverton city council and as mayor, has been praised by Trump for his business-oriented approach and commitment to lowering taxes while improving services for residents.
Staggs has also been vocal about his differences with Romney, describing him as “out of touch” with Republican voters in Utah. With Romney deciding not to run for reelection, Staggs sees an opportunity for an “America First candidate” to represent the state. Prior to Trump’s endorsement, Staggs had already received support from Ric Grenell, a former acting director of national intelligence under the Trump administration.
