Former President Donald Trump is currently leading President Joe Biden among independents, according to an I&I/TIPP Poll released Monday. The poll showed Biden and Trump nearly tied when third-party candidates were included, with Biden receiving 39 percent support and Trump receiving 38 percent. Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. received 12 percent support, followed by one percent for independent candidate Cornel West and one percent for Green Party candidate Jill Stein.

In a head-to-head race, the survey revealed that independents favored Trump over Biden by a five-point margin, with 15 percent still undecided. When third-party candidates were included, Trump led Biden among independents by eight points, with 33 percent support compared to 25 percent. RFK Jr. received 18 percent support, while West and Stein each received two percent.

TIPP Insights highlighted the significance of this shift, noting that in the previous election, independents favored Biden over Trump. However, the current data shows a reversal in their preferences. Trump has also made gains in other demographics, with African-American voters showing a 31-point swing in support from Biden to Trump and Hispanic voters giving less support to Biden compared to the previous election.

The survey also asked respondents who they think will win the election, with more believing Trump will win over Biden. The survey was conducted from May 1-3, 2024, among 1,264 respondents, with a margin of error of ± 2.8 percent.
