Scott Jennings: Harris’ Interview a ‘Disaster’ for Her Campaign

Vice President Kamala Harris’ latest interview with MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle has been widely panned, with many critics labeling it a disaster. The interview came on the heels of President Joe Biden’s appearance on “The View,” where he made comments that seemed to throw Harris under the bus by delegating authority to her on domestic policy.

CNN’s Scott Jennings summed up the day as “a mess” for Harris, citing Biden’s comments and Harris’ own speech, in which she acknowledged that the current policies have failed. Jennings pointed out the hypocrisy of Harris’ claims, given her role as vice president and her bid for the presidency. “She’s asking for a promotion, but she’s not taking responsibility for the policies that have failed,” he said.

Harris’ speech was also notable for a slip of the tongue, in which she said “we just need to move past the failed policies that we have proven don’t work.” The comment has been seized upon by the Trump campaign, with even former President Donald Trump himself sharing it on social media.

The Biden-Harris administration’s unpopularity was also on full display, with Biden’s approval rating sitting at just 41.6 percent, according to RealClearPolling. A CNN poll earlier this week found that 63 percent of respondents consider Biden’s presidency a “failure,” and that being tied to Biden is likely hurting Harris’ chances.

Harris’ interview with Ruhle did little to alleviate concerns about her economic policies, with Jennings labeling her comments “ridiculous pablum.” Even MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski has acknowledged that the Harris-Walz campaign needs to do more to address economic issues, saying that supporters are offering “goals” rather than a “vision.”

Jennings concluded that Harris’ interview and the day’s events as a whole were a missed opportunity to address the economic concerns of Americans. “You want to talk about aspirations and dreams, they’re crushed in this country because of inflation,” he said.
