Travis Kelce’s high-profile romance with Taylor Swift may be boosting NFL ratings, but his on-field performance is telling a different story. The tight end has struggled to make an impact this season, with only eight receptions for 69 yards and no touchdowns in three games.
Legendary sports radio host Mike Francesa has questioned Kelce’s dedication to football, suggesting that his personal life may be taking a toll on his performance. “As an organization and as a coach, you have to wonder how dedicated Kelce is to the sport right now,” Francesa said on his podcast. “He’s got a lot going on in his life, and it’s clear that his priorities have shifted.”
Francesa pointed out that Kelce’s life has changed dramatically since his romance with Swift, with constant media attention and public appearances. “You see him in commercials, photo ops, and he’s always conscious of how he’s dressed and where the paparazzi are,” Francesa said. “It’s changed his life, and you wonder where football fits into that.”
Kelce’s performance is a far cry from last season, when he had 17 catches for 152 yards and two touchdowns in the first three games. NBC analyst Rodney Harrison has taken notice of the decline, saying that Kelce is no longer a “great player” in his eyes.
“He’s busy, he’s got a lot on his plate,” Harrison explained. “When you’re in that situation, you’ve got to forget about everything else and focus 100 percent on football. That’s the main responsibility.”
Harrison believes that Kelce’s lack of focus is evident on the field, where he’s struggling to make plays. “Guys are making plays on him, and he just doesn’t have the same speed,” Harrison said. “He’s a good player still, but I don’t believe he’s a great, great player.”
