A surgeon in India abruptly left a surgery mid-operation on Nov. 3 because his staff refused to serve him tea, as reported by NDTV. This incident occurred at a government-owned hospital in central India’s Mauda tehsil of Nagpur. Dr. Tejrang Bhalavi asked for tea during surgery and walked out of the operating room, abandoning his surgical duties for the day.
Dr. Bhalavi had completed only half of the female vasectomy surgeries scheduled for that day before the incident took place. An investigation into the matter has been initiated by Nagpur Zilla Parishad’s CEO Soumya Sharma, with the possibility of taking action against the doctor under IPC 304 for leaving a surgery for tea.
Following Dr. Bhalavi’s unexpected departure, hospital administrators contacted the district medical officer for assistance, and another doctor was called in to complete the surgeries. The seriousness of the situation was emphasized by Sharma, stating that action should be taken against any doctor who leaves operations for trivial reasons like tea.
